19 Jun

You’re not the only one out there who sees the grass being a whole lot greener on the other side when it comes to starting your business and quitting your job but let’s face it there are fears and doubts that tend to settle in.  One of the leadership traits that I’ve learned in the Marine Corps was “Courage” and we defined it as “Not the absence of fear but the mastery of fear.”  What I want you to take away from this insight is to prepare yourself for the feelings that are about to consume you.  Once you’ve acknowledged these feelings ensure that it doesn’t paralyze you but motivates you.  (more…)

Either get paid what you deserve or do it for free, don’t be in the middle

I remember when I was going to get my car serviced at a mechanic.  He was very unique and even had a sign behind his register that said “Pay me what I want and I will give you what you want, Pay me what you want and I will give you what I want.”  You definitely have to respect the message especially when you find yourself on the servicing side.  Have you ever found yourself landing a client, giving them a price that they are pleased with (more…)

How to find work for a start-up entrepreneur

9 Mar

The first challenge I underwent on my entrepreneurial journey was “How do I find work?” I tried many different marketing attempts (very low budget) and I was just not having enough business.  I had an occasional referral however not nearly enough to pay the cell phone bill.  Then I came across a oDesk, Elance and Craigslist and I immediately seized the opportunity to start getting my hands dirty (figuratively off course). I took on jobs such as Virtual Assistant, Spanish to English Translator, logo and web designs.  Through these efforts I was able to generate new leads and received a good amount of referrals.  It allowed me to supplement my local search of finding work.  Are there any other sites you’ve used to help you launch?  Please share them and your experiences.

Send Free Mass Text Messages

6 Mar

The power of text messaging is undeniable.  With many expensive options out there to generate leads TextMarks happens to be a very powerful and inexpensive alternative to sending out mass text messages.  They offer a 1 keyword free package (Ad Supported) that helps you get your feet wet.  I’ve attempted to create a keyword of “SGTPAPI” however my cell phone is on MetroPCS so I wasn’t successful.  When I tried my Sprint cell it worked great.  This tool, combined with some type of physical sign campaign helps you collect a good amount of cell phone to build awareness to your business.  Try it out.  I will be testing a campaign with it real soon and share my results here.  Have you tried an SMS campaign?  How did it go, please share what you used and the results.
